In a major move to expand access to safe drinking water, the Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) is preparing to launch bottled Cauvery water in eco-friendly containers across key transit hubs.

The Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) is preparing a new initiative that aims to make Cauvery water available in bottled form, similar to commercial packaged drinking water sold in the city. The proposal, designed to offer clean drinking water in a convenient format, is being finalised for submission to the state government after consultations with the Deputy Chief Minister.

In the first phase, the bottled Cauvery water will be made available at major bus terminals and railway stations across the city. The move is expected to benefit thousands of daily commuters who currently depend on commercial brands for drinking water. The BWSSB intends to produce the water in bio-degradable plastic bottles, reducing environmental impact while ensuring safe packaging. Officials believe that shifting to eco-friendly materials will support public health and align with sustainability goals.

Although the brand name for the bottled product has not yet been finalised, preparations are underway to create packaging that meets international standards. The board aims to position Bengaluru’s bottled Cauvery water as a high-quality, reliable drinking water option. At present, BWSSB supplies Cauvery water to nearly 1.40 crore residents in the city, and the new product is expected to provide additional access points, especially in high-footfall public spaces.
