Bengaluru is set to strengthen its waste management infrastructure with two integrated solid waste management parks planned on the city’s outskirts. One facility will be developed on government land at Gollahalli in Bengaluru South, while the second will come up at Doddabelavangala in Doddaballapur, according to Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited (BSWML) CEO Karee Gowda.

For the Doddabelavangala project, 70 acres will be acquired, with farmers receiving compensation of ₹1.57 crore per acre. Gowda said over 100 acres have been earmarked across identified locations, including areas near Terra Farm in Gundalahalli village, to establish comprehensive waste management infrastructure. Bengaluru currently generates nearly 6,000 metric tonnes of solid waste daily, making scientific processing facilities essential.

In a significant development, Bengaluru has also earned up to ₹1.8 crore through Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) credits. BSWML generated this revenue by selling 18,000 tonnes of Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF), produced from plastic waste, to Dalmia Cement. The company issued 3,600 EPR credits, marking the city’s first such achievement. Officials said this revenue will support sustainable plastic waste management.

Currently, about 520 metric tonnes of low-value plastic are collected daily, with a target to increase this to 1,000 tonnes. Gowda noted that RDF collection has surged nearly 50 times since October 2025, thanks to stricter enforcement and awareness campaigns.

BSWML has also intensified penalties against littering and non-segregation, collecting an average of ₹60 lakh in fines monthly. These funds have been used to purchase tractors for each Assembly constituency to clear bulk waste. Over the past three months, more than 6,000 metric tonnes of bulk waste have been cleared.

Residents facing garbage-related issues can lodge complaints via the Sahay 2.0 platform, helpline number 1533, or WhatsApp chatbot 94481 97197.

As part of the Swachh Survekshan campaign, BSWML has appointed Padma Shri awardee Manjamma Jogathi, actor Aniruddha Jatkar, and activist Arun Pai as ambassadors to promote cleanliness and segregation awareness among citizens.
