  • 1,000 steel segregation bins to be installed across major city roads
  • 500 bins arranged through CSR support from Prashanth Prakash
  • 70 kasa kiosks allotted, with 4 already functioning in key blackspots

BSWML rolls out a major citywide initiative to improve waste segregation, supported entirely through CSR funding, with CEO Kareegowda confirming the plan to NewsFirst.

Bengaluru’s waste management system is set for a major upgrade, with the city preparing to install 1,000 steel segregation bins across arterial and sub-arterial stretches. Speaking to NewsFirst, BSWML CEO Kareegowda confirmed that the initiative is aimed at strengthening on-ground waste segregation, especially in crowded commercial zones where mixed waste continues to remain a challenge.

According to BSWML, the new bins, designed separately for wet and dry waste, will be placed in high-footfall areas such as SP Road, Cottonpet, MG Road, Brigade Road, and other busy markets. The plan focuses on improving public access to waste segregation points and reducing indiscriminate dumping on streets.

Kareegowda said that the entire project is being funded through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) contributions. Of the total, 500 bins have been arranged through the support of Prashanth Prakash, enabling the city to scale up segregation infrastructure without burdening municipal finances.

Alongside the new bins, the city is also deploying 70 kasa kiosks at identified blackspots to ensure quicker collection and better handling of waste. Four kiosks, one in Koramangala and three in Banashankari, are already operational. The remaining kiosks will be installed in phases across major problem zones.

The CEO emphasised that the initiative is part of a broader effort to correct poor segregation practices seen particularly in commercial establishments. “The focus is on strengthening street-level waste management and addressing persistent issues in busy marketplaces,” Kareegowda told NewsFirst.

The project is being executed by the Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited (BSWML) as part of its ongoing strategy to streamline the city’s waste system and improve compliance with mandatory segregation rules.
