Bengaluru police are investigating a suspected case of dowry harassment following the death of a young woman identified as Shilpa. The incident was reported on August 26 under the jurisdiction of Suddaguntepalya police station.

Shilpa, who was married to Praveen for two and a half years, was found hanging at her residence late on Monday night. The couple has a one-and-a-half-year-old son. Following the discovery, Shilpa’s family alleged that she had been subjected to dowry-related harassment by her husband and in-laws, which they believe led to her death.

Suddaguntepalya police register a case

Acting on the complaint, Suddaguntepalya police registered a case and took Praveen into custody for questioning. Investigators are now examining whether his family members were also involved in the alleged harassment. Shilpa’s body has been sent for post-mortem, and further details are awaited.
The case comes days after a dowry-related death in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, that drew widespread public outrage. Despite legal safeguards, incidents of cruelty against women over dowry continue to surface across the country, underlining the persistence of the problem.

Police officials confirmed that an investigation is underway to establish the sequence of events that led to Shilpa’s death. Authorities have assured that strict action will be taken if harassment is proven.

This case adds to growing concerns over rising reports of dowry harassment and domestic violence, even in urban centers such as Bengaluru.
