A limited-period 50% discount on pending traffic fines triggers an overwhelming response as Bengaluru clears more than three lakh violations and collects ₹8.71 crore in ten days.

Bengaluru’s traffic enforcement system has seen an unprecedented public response after the city’s traffic police announced a 50% discount on all pending traffic fines. The special concession, introduced on November 21 to encourage residents to clear long-pending violation cases, has resulted in more than three lakh cases being settled in just ten days.

Data from the department shows that a total of 3,07,931 traffic violation cases were cleared between November 21 and December 1. This large-scale participation led to a significant rise in fine collections, with the traffic police recording ₹8.71 crore in revenue during this short period. Officials noted that the response exceeded expectations, especially in high-violation zones where motorists rushed to make use of the discount.

The 50% reduction was introduced to ease the financial burden on citizens while also helping the department address lakhs of pending cases that had accumulated over time. The initiative saw queues at traffic police stations, high online transaction volumes, and a noticeable increase in citizens proactively checking their pending notices.

With the public turnout continuing to remain high, the traffic police have extended the opportunity for motorists to settle their dues at half the original penalty amount. The discount will remain available until December 12, allowing more violators to clear their long-pending dues at a reduced rate.
