The Greater Bengaluru Authority’s Climate Action Cell (CAC) is set to develop ward-specific climate action plans for Bengaluru to address the city’s environmental challenges. The initiative will involve selecting 10 wards from across five city corporations, with each ward receiving a tailored Climate Action Plan (WCAP). These reports will assess current environmental conditions, identify major challenges, and propose key interventions to drive effective climate action.

To ensure the success of this project, the CAC is forming a dedicated working group tasked with providing technical expertise and sectoral knowledge. The group will play a central role in the development of WCAPs, offering support in local stakeholder engagement, data analysis, and ensuring high-quality deliverables. The group will also establish a clear framework for report preparation and ensure that the plans for all 10 wards are ready by January 2026.
Bengaluru Climate Action and Resilience Plan (BCAP)
A strategic framework will also be put in place to align ward-level actions, define responsibilities, and implement monitoring mechanisms for transparency and accountability. This initiative is part of the Bengaluru Climate Action and Resilience Plan (BCAP), which aims to reduce emissions and build climate resilience, in line with the city’s commitment to the C40 Cities network.
Environmentalists have generally welcomed the initiative, urging the CAC to prioritize high-impact actions like implementing the BMLTA Act and enhancing Bengaluru’s blue-green infrastructure. These measures, they argue, will significantly improve the city’s climate resilience.
