Bengaluru’s Silk Board–Ragigudda double-decker flyover will be fully open by March, easing congestion at Silk Board though traffic may shift to Marenahalli Road

Bengaluru’s landmark double-decker flyover connecting Central Silk Board to Ragigudda is set to become fully operational by March, with the final stretch between HSR Layout and BTM Layout expected to be ready by February. The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), which is executing the project, has confirmed that construction is progressing ahead of schedule.

Chief PRO BL Yeshwanth Chavan stated that the remaining work will be completed by February. Once the elevated section is ready for connectivity, the road would be opened to the public in consultation with traffic police.

The project has already seen partial commissioning. In July 2024, BMRCL opened the Ragigudda–Silk Board stretch, spanning 5 km, including a ramp over the busy Silk Board junction. However, the opposite carriageway from Silk Board to Ragigudda remained closed due to delays caused by design modifications, traffic police approvals, and girder launching challenges. Originally slated for December 2025, the timeline has now been advanced.

Once the remaining section is opened, motorists from HSR Layout heading towards BTM Layout and Ragigudda will benefit from smoother connectivity. The full commissioning is expected to ease the notorious gridlocks at Silk Board, one of the city’s busiest traffic junctions.

Traffic police officials have already noted improvements since the partial opening, with smoother movement below the flyover as vehicles from HSR Layout and Hosur Road now use the elevated road. However, they cautioned that traffic signals at the junction will remain necessary for vehicles heading towards Madiwala and other adjoining areas.

The double-decker flyover is part of the Yellow Line Metro project, which required the demolition of the Jayadeva flyover to accommodate an interchange station. Construction began in 2019 but faced multiple delays. Interestingly, during the lull, residents informally used the unopened stretch for jogging and morning walks.

While Silk Board congestion is expected to ease, traffic may shift towards Marenahalli Road near Ragigudda Metro station, as well as Banashankari Road, Kanakapura Road, and JP Nagar. BBMP had earlier proposed an underpass near Sri Raghavendra Swamy Mutt to address rising congestion, a plan that may gain renewed urgency once the flyover is fully operational.
