Hebbal flyover’s revamp has eased Bengaluru’s airport commute. Vehicle speeds rose from 20–25 km/h to 40–50 km/h, reducing delays
Bengaluru’s notorious Hebbal flyover, once a major traffic choke point, has undergone a significant transformation, easing travel for commuters heading to Kempegowda International Airport. The resurfacing project has boosted average vehicle speeds from 20–25 km/h to 40–50 km/h within just a week of completion, cutting down travel times during peak hours.
For years, the flyover was plagued by potholes, damaged asphalt, and mismatched lanes, creating hazardous conditions for two-wheeler riders and frequent accidents when larger vehicles braked suddenly. The recent project tackled these issues head-on, with Bengaluru North City Corporation carrying out milling and laying stone matrix asphalt to deliver a smoother, more durable surface. The work began on January 24 and was completed by January 28, ensuring long-term relief compared to earlier short-lived repairs.
Traffic authorities have also deployed personnel to manage vehicle breakdowns on the flyover, ensuring uninterrupted movement. The changes have already made a visible difference, particularly for airport-bound commuters who previously faced stressful delays.

Despite the improvements, challenges persist near the Dairy Farm bus stop, also known as Kempapura, where private buses often halt on the main road instead of using designated bays. This continues to disrupt traffic flow, especially during evening rush hours.
Overall, the Hebbal flyover revamp marks a major step in Bengaluru’s efforts to improve urban mobility. For thousands of daily commuters and air travellers, the smoother ride is a welcome relief, demonstrating how targeted infrastructure upgrades can deliver immediate benefits to the city’s traffic network.
