Bengaluru’s traffic chaos worsens with roadside parking. GBA to build 66 multi‑level lots, each for 485 cars, aiming to ease gridlock
Silicon City Bengaluru, often hailed as India’s tech capital, is now earning an unwanted title — ‘Traffic City.’ Daily congestion and roadside parking chaos have left residents frustrated, with no quick solution in sight. Responding to mounting pressure, the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has unveiled an ambitious plan to ease the burden: the construction of 66 multi‑Private Partnership (PPP) model, will target areas with the heaviest traffic. Each parking lot will feature nine floors, seven lifts, and capacity for 485 cars. Together, the facilities are expected to provide thousands of organized parking spaces, reducing the number of vehicles clogging Bengaluru’s narrow roads.

Traffic police have welcomed the move, noting that illegal roadside parking has become a major contributor to congestion. With vehicles left unattended for hours, bottlenecks have worsened, slowing commutes and adding to public frustration.
Residents hope the new infrastructure will bring relief to a city where “traffic, traffic, traffic” has become a daily refrain. If completed swiftly, the project could mark a turning point in Bengaluru’s battle against gridlock, offering commuters smoother rides and reclaiming road space for mobility.
