To tackle severe parking shortages around metro stations, BMRCL is planning to acquire nearby land and build multi-level parking facilities with commercial spaces, following clear directions from the Deputy Chief Minister.
In a major step towards easing parking chaos around Bengaluru’s metro stations, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has prepared a fresh action plan focused on land acquisition and infrastructure expansion.
With several metro stations lacking adequate parking facilities, commuters have been forced to park vehicles on footpaths and in front of nearby houses. This has not only led to traffic congestion near stations but has also caused inconvenience to local residents, triggering frequent complaints.

To address this growing problem, BMRCL is planning to purchase additional land in the immediate vicinity of metro stations. The acquired land will be used to construct multi-level parking complexes, ensuring sufficient space for two-wheelers and cars
The plan goes beyond just parking. BMRCL also intends to open commercial shops within these parking buildings. Officials believe this will improve station-area utility while generating additional revenue.
The issue was discussed in detail during a progress review meeting held on Monday between BMRCL officials and the Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. During the meeting, the DCM clearly instructed BMRCL to move ahead with land acquisition wherever required and ensure proper parking infrastructure at metro stations.

He specifically directed officials to identify and acquire more land near metro stations to support the construction of multi-storey parking facilities. The focus, officials said, is on reducing roadside parking, easing traffic flow, and addressing the daily inconvenience faced by commuters and residents.
Once implemented, the plan is expected to bring much-needed relief to busy metro corridors by organising parking, improving traffic movement, and enhancing the overall commuting experience.
