The programme, covering nearly 12,000 BMTC drivers and conductors across 50 depots, is being conducted by traffic experts and driving specialists. Sessions emphasize safe driving techniques, adherence to traffic regulations, navigating pothole-ridden stretches, and understanding the dangers of overspeeding and reckless overtaking. To reinforce these lessons, past CCTV accident footage is being shown to participants, offering real-time insights into high-risk situations.

Recent data underscores the urgency of the initiative, with five deaths and multiple injuries reported in BMTC-related mishaps over just the past two weeks. While officials acknowledge that not all accidents stem from driver error, negligence has surfaced in several cases, prompting the corporation to tighten enforcement.

BMTC has introduced strict disciplinary measures, including six-month suspensions for negligent drivers, dismissal for repeat offenders, and immediate suspension for those found using mobile phones on duty. In the case of electric buses, drivers face 15-day suspensions for violations, alongside a ₹5,000 penalty imposed on the operating company.

Officials believe the training will improve driver awareness, reduce accident risks, and restore public confidence in BMTC services. They have also highlighted that responsible driving safeguards not only passengers but also the professional future of drivers.
