IMD forecasts five days of cold conditions, rainfall in south interior districts and cyclonic activity over surrounding seas
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for Karnataka, warning of cold conditions and rainfall across several parts of the state over the next five days. Bengaluru is expected to experience an intense cold spell for the next four days, accompanied by cloudy skies and the possibility of rain.
According to the forecast, the capital city will remain under a cloud-covered atmosphere for the next two days, with light to moderate rainfall likely. Specifically, rain has been predicted for Bengaluru on January 9 and January 10, bringing relief to some areas but also increasing the chill factor.

Cold conditions are not limited to the capital alone. IMD has stated that North Karnataka will witness a rise in cold intensity over the next five days. Night temperatures are expected to drop further, making mornings and evenings particularly cold across the region.
The cold spell will also continue along the coastal belt and in South Interior Karnataka. In addition to low temperatures, some districts in South Interior Karnataka are likely to receive rainfall during this period, influenced by changing weather systems over surrounding seas.
Meteorologists have attributed these conditions to cyclonic circulations forming over multiple maritime regions. A cyclonic system is expected to develop over the southeast Arabian Sea and the adjoining Kerala coast at an altitude of about 0.9 kilometres above mean sea level. This system is likely to impact weather patterns across Karnataka.

Further, the effects of cyclonic circulations over the southeast Bay of Bengal, southwest Bay of Bengal, and parts of the Indian Ocean are also expected to contribute to rainfall activity across the state. Due to the combined influence of these systems, several parts of Karnataka, including Bengaluru, may experience intermittent showers along with cold weather.
The weather department has advised residents to remain cautious, especially during early morning and night hours, as cold conditions are likely to persist across most regions of the state over the coming days.
