Ramamurthy Nagar police detain 11 suspected illegal migrants in K. Channasandra as Home Minister G. Parameshwara orders statewide verification of foreigners and fake ID cards.
A major operation has been launched in Bengaluru against suspected illegal Bangladeshi migrants, with 11 persons detained for document verification in K. Channasandra, under the Ramamurthy Nagar police station limits.
Acting on specific inputs, the police conducted a raid in the area and took 11 suspected Bangladeshi nationals into custody. Their identity documents and travel records are currently being verified to confirm whether they are staying in the country legally. Officials said the verification process is underway and further action will be taken based on the findings.
Reacting to the operation, Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara said that Bangladeshi nationals and other foreigners usually enter India on valid visas but often stay back even after their visa period expires. He said instructions have been issued to all district police superintendents to identify such overstaying foreigners.

The Home Minister noted that some illegal migrants are reportedly obtaining local identity cards, which makes detection difficult. “I have asked police officials to thoroughly verify local ID cards and check for misuse,” he said.
Parameshwara also pointed out that the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) maintains records of foreigners. However, if individuals leave without formal exit procedures, their records may not be updated, making tracking challenging.
He recalled that the issue of illegal Bangladeshi migrants was debated extensively in the state Assembly, where opposition parties alleged that 15 to 20 lakh illegal migrants were living in Karnataka. “I responded clearly in the House and assured that strict action would be taken. Accordingly, I have directed police officers across all districts to identify illegal residents,” he said.

The Home Minister clarified that the drive is not limited to Bangladeshi nationals alone. “We have instructed officials to identify all foreigners staying illegally in Bengaluru and other parts of the state,” he said, adding that special focus has been placed on verifying suspected fake identity documents.
With intensified checks and coordinated police action, authorities aim to crack down on illegal migration and ensure law and order in Bengaluru.
