GBA conducts surprise checks across central Bengaluru, issues notices to 574 PGs and takes strict action against violations related to hygiene, safety, and food standards.

The city’s civic authorities have launched a major crackdown on unauthorised paying guest (PG) accommodations operating within the central municipal limits. As part of an intensive inspection drive, officials carried out raids and checks across several key areas of Bengaluru, leading to strict action against multiple establishments.

During the operation, authorities inspected PGs located in Shantinagar, C.V. Raman Nagar, Gandhinagar, Shivajinagar, Chamarajapete, and Chickpet. The inspections focused on basic living standards, safety measures, and food hygiene compliance.

As a result of the drive, eight PG accommodations were sealed after officials found serious lapses, particularly in maintaining kitchen hygiene. The authorities stated that failure to follow cleanliness norms in food preparation areas posed a direct health risk to residents, leading to immediate closure.

In addition to the closures, the civic body imposed a total fine of ₹3,09,000 on PG operators for various other violations. These included the lack of clean drinking water, poor sanitation facilities, absence of safety arrangements, and non-compliance with mandatory regulations.

Officials also issued awareness and compliance notices to 574 PG accommodations, instructing them to rectify deficiencies and follow prescribed rules. The inspection teams verified the availability of safe drinking water, clean kitchens, proper toilet facilities, fire safety equipment, CCTV camera installations, and the mandatory FSSAI food safety certification.

GBA made it clear that such inspections will continue and warned PG operators that strict action will be taken against those running unauthorised facilities or ignoring basic safety and hygiene norms.
