After demolition of 167 illegal sheds, authorities start a detailed survey and document collection drive to identify eligible residents for rehabilitation housing.
Uncertainty continues among residents displaced from Kogilu Layout even as the government has assured alternative housing on humanitarian grounds. While Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has promised rehabilitation, officials have made it clear that only eligible beneficiaries will receive houses after a strict verification process.
As per official government records, 167 sheds have been demolished in the area. Authorities have stated that all the demolished structures were illegal constructions. However, considering the humanitarian situation of those who lost shelter, the government has decided to provide alternative housing, but not to everyone.

Officials have clarified that houses will be allotted only to those who meet eligibility criteria. To identify such beneficiaries, the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has initiated a detailed survey along with the district administration and the civic body. A list of eligible and ineligible residents will be prepared based on this survey.
Teams from the city corporation visited the site to collect information from those affected. The final allotment will be made only to those whose names appear on the approved list prepared by officials.
A major challenge in the process is the lack of proper documentation. Many families reportedly possess only Aadhaar cards or voter ID cards, raising concerns over how eligibility will be decided and whether confusion could arise during allotment.
The government has decided to provide alternative housing at Baiyappanahalli, where more than 1,000 houses constructed by the government are available. These houses are being considered for the rehabilitation of Kogilu Layout evacuees.

A comprehensive survey is currently underway at Kogilu Layout by GBA officials and the district administration. Authorities are collecting documents directly from displaced families. Officials from the Rajiv Gandhi Housing Scheme are also part of the exercise. In total, three departments are involved in verifying records and assessing eligibility.
Under the Rajiv Gandhi Housing Scheme and the Single House Scheme, officials are collecting documents to process housing benefits. From each household, five documents are being verified: voter ID, electricity bill, Aadhaar card, temporary court order copy, and ration card.
In addition, officials have gathered information from local ASHA workers, who possess detailed knowledge about residents living in the area. Bengaluru North Corporation Joint Commissioner Mohammed Nayim Momin has personally visited Kogilu Layout to oversee document verification and data collection.

Once documents are collected, their authenticity will be thoroughly checked. Authorities will also verify whether applicants own any other property in their name. Local displaced residents with valid documents will be given first priority. Evictees from other states will be considered only if they submit proper and complete records.
After verification, a final list of beneficiaries will be prepared and submitted to the government. Senior sources in a information to NewsFirst told the decision on house allotment will be taken based on this list.
