After prolonged delays, St John’s Hospital agrees to provide crucial land for portal pier construction following talks with GBA, paving the way for completion of the Ejipura flyover.
The long-pending Ejipura flyover project has finally overcome its biggest obstacle, bringing relief to commuters who have waited years for the key arterial road to be completed. The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has received formal consent from St John’s Hospital to provide the required land, allowing stalled construction work to resume without further interruption.
The breakthrough came after discussions between the GBA commissioner and the St John’s Hospital management. The hospital administration agreed to temporarily hand over a portion of its land, which was crucial for the construction of five portal piers near its premises. This issue had been the main reason for delays in the project’s final stages.
The land requirement is on the left side of the stretch connecting Central Sadan towards Ejipura, where the flyover alignment passes adjacent to St John’s Hospital. The construction plan involves building portal piers close to the pedestrian pathway and the hospital’s compound wall. Earlier, completing this work would have required dismantling a section of the compound wall, which had led to prolonged negotiations.

With consent now in place, the GBA will proceed with the construction. Officials confirmed that once the flyover work is completed, the hospital’s compound wall will be rebuilt by the authority, addressing safety and boundary concerns raised by the institution.
The Ejipura flyover is being built along Ejipura Main Road and spans a total length of 2.38 kilometres. The project involves casting 762 segments in total. So far, 645 segments have already been cast, while 117 segments are still pending. In addition, 490 segments have been erected and joined as part of the superstructure work.
Officials stated that constructing the five remaining portal piers is critical to completing the final phase of the flyover. Once these piers are in place, the remaining segment erection and finishing works can be completed at a faster pace.
With the land issue resolved, there are no further major obstacles to the project. Authorities are now preparing to complete the remaining works and aim to open the Ejipura flyover to public traffic in the first half of this year, offering much-needed relief to commuters in the area.
