A 23-year-old factory worker died on the spot after a Fortuner allegedly driven by HM Revanna’s son Shashank hit his scooter and fled; locals chased the vehicle for 5 km before intercepting it.
A major incident late Friday night has triggered outrage in Ramanagara district after a 23-year-old youth, Rajesh B.G., was killed in a hit-and-run accident involving a vehicle allegedly driven by Shashank, son of HM Revanna, Chairman of the Guarantee Schemes Implementation Committee.
The accident occurred around 10:30 PM on the Dabaspet–Ramanagara road, barely 100 metres from Gudemarenahalli toll. Rajesh, a resident of Belagumba village in Magadi taluk, was returning from work on his scooter. He was employed at a factory in Dabaspet.

Witnesses say the Fortuner, in which Shashank was travelling along with his wife, child and an elderly man, attempted to overtake two bikes and hit Rajesh’s scooter at high speed. The impact was severe enough that Rajesh died instantly at the spot.
Instead of stopping, the SUV allegedly sped away, prompting local residents to immediately begin a chase. The pursuit continued for nearly 5 kilometres, ending near the Sunflower Oil Factory, where the locals managed to intercept the Fortuner.
Residents at the spot claim that Shashank initially identified himself as HM Revanna’s son, allegedly attempting to use his influence while being confronted. The vehicle was later stopped again at the Solur Police Check-post.

The incident falls under the jurisdiction of Kudur Police Station, where villagers have gathered to initiate an FIR. Rajesh’s body has been taken to the Magadi Government Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Rajesh, survived by his parents and two elder sisters, was reportedly the main support for his family, deepening the shock and grief across the village.
Authorities are recording statements, and further legal action is expected based on FIR proceedings.
