Cyber fraudsters impersonate Bengaluru Cyber Cell officers, threaten former Supreme Court judge; complaint lodged by Supreme Court Secretary General Bharat Parashar.
Cyber fraudsters have once again demonstrated their audacity by targeting a former judge of the Supreme Court of India, posing as officials from the Bengaluru Cyber Cell and issuing threatening phone calls.
According to official sources, former Supreme Court judge Justice J. Chelameswar received repeated calls from unidentified individuals claiming to be officers of the Bengaluru Cyber Cell. The callers allegedly used threatening language and warned of legal consequences, creating serious concern.
Justice Chelameswar immediately informed Supreme Court Secretary General Bharat Parashar about the suspicious calls. He also cautioned that the fraudsters were misusing mobile numbers falsely presented as official government contact numbers. Considering the gravity of the issue, the former judge advised that a formal complaint be filed with the concerned authorities.
Acting on this information, Bharat Parashar lodged a detailed complaint at the Bengaluru Cyber Police Station. Based on the complaint, an FIR has been registered against the unknown persons involved in the threatening calls.
In his complaint, Parashar stated that the callers falsely claimed to be cyber police officers and attempted to intimidate by misusing government identity. He also highlighted that such misuse of official designations and mobile numbers poses a serious security and legal concern.
The cyber police have begun an investigation to trace the origin of the calls, identify the individuals behind the impersonation, and determine whether the attempt was part of a larger cyber fraud network.
