GBA Chief Commissioner M. Maheshwar Rao orders transparent e-auction for 79 air-conditioned shops and strict regulation of unauthorised business activities around the Palike Bazaar.
In a move aimed at ensuring transparency and proper regulation, M. Maheshwar Rao, Chief Commissioner of the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), on Tuesday directed officials to allot shops at the Palike Bazaar in Vijayanagar strictly through the e-auction process, following all prescribed rules and norms.
During a review of the project, Mr. Rao said that 79 shops are available in the air-conditioned Palike Bazaar and instructed officials to immediately begin the e-auction process. He emphasised that allotment must be carried out in a fair and transparent manner, leaving no scope for irregularities.
To maintain order around the bazaar, the Chief Commissioner also ordered strict action against unauthorised commercial activities in and around the premises. He further directed the appointment of a dedicated Revenue Officer whose sole responsibility will be to monitor the bazaar and ensure compliance with regulations.
The Palike Bazaar project, which began in 2018, was conceived to provide local vendors and small traders with a well-organised and dedicated commercial space. According to officials, the initiative is part of a larger plan to develop similar markets across Bengaluru, helping vendors operate legally and improving urban market infrastructure.
The Vijayanagar Palike Bazaar was inaugurated on August 25 by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, marking a key step in the city’s efforts to modernise public markets while supporting small businesses.
