After two failed attempts, the Greater Bengaluru Authority renews its push to build modern, eco-friendly offices for all five city corporations.
The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has issued fresh tenders for the third time to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the construction of new office buildings for Bengaluru’s city corporations. The move comes after two earlier tender calls failed to attract any bidders.
The proposed office buildings will each have a minimum built-up area of 75,000 square feet. Apart from the Bengaluru Central City Corporation, similar offices are planned for the remaining four city corporations formed after the bifurcation of the erstwhile Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). Currently, all five corporations are functioning from converted and ageing zonal offices.
The new offices are planned as full-fledged administrative hubs. Each building will include council halls, meeting halls, multiple office rooms, record rooms, a library and adequate parking facilities. In addition, the plans include an integrated command and control centre, a cafeteria and other supporting infrastructure.

Bengaluru Smart Infrastructure Limited (B-SMILE), the infrastructure special purpose vehicle of the GBA, has invited tenders worth ₹3 crore for preparing the DPR. According to a B-SMILE official, the buildings are envisioned with unique architectural themes and designed as blue-green structures that reduce energy use and water consumption. The official indicated that these specialised sustainability requirements may have discouraged bidders during the earlier tender rounds.
A review committee led by the Managing Director of B-SMILE, along with commissioners of the four city corporations, the special commissioner (finance), the engineer-in-chief and other senior officials, will assess and approve the designs and related work. Once a consultant is appointed, the DPR must be submitted within 60 days.
Tentative locations have already been identified for the proposed offices: Basavanapura village in Mahadevapura for East City, Chandra Layout for West City, Chokkanahalli village for North City, land beside Banashankari Metro Station for South City, and the existing council building at the GBA headquarters for Central City.
