Chief Commissioner M. Maheshwar Rao orders detailed surveys and fast-tracks multiple buffer road projects in East and South Bengaluru to reduce congestion on key arterial roads.
In a major move to address traffic congestion in Bengaluru, the Chief Commissioner of the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), M. Maheshwar Rao, has directed officials to carry out a detailed feasibility survey for constructing a new road within the Bellandur Lake buffer zone.
The direction was issued during an inspection of several locations under the East and South City Corporation limits on Tuesday. Officials have been instructed to examine available land parcels within the buffer zone and assess whether a road can be built without issues. A comprehensive report on the feasibility of the project has been sought.

According to officials, the proposed road will be around one kilometre long and 24 metres wide. Apart from serving as a traffic corridor, the road is planned to include space for public movement and recreational activities. Once completed, it is expected to significantly ease traffic pressure on the Bellandur Lake bund road, which currently witnesses heavy congestion.
During the inspection, Mr. Rao also stated that preparatory work has begun for constructing a 1.4-kilometre-long buffer road as an alternative route to the busy Wind Tunnel Road. The land required for this project belongs to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), and consent has already been obtained from HAL authorities.
Tenders for this buffer road project have been floated, and the GBA is in the process of securing government approval. Officials have been instructed to begin construction at the earliest once clearances are in place.
