Deputy CM D K Shivakumar confirms that the State is exploring options to relocate the Karnataka High Court to a larger site within Bengaluru’s Central Business District, citing severe space shortage in the existing building.

The Karnataka government is exploring the possibility of relocating the High Court of Karnataka to a new and larger site within Bengaluru’s Central Business District (CBD), Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar confirmed on Sunday, October 26, 2025.

Speaking during the “Walk With Bengaluru” citizen outreach event at Cubbon Park, Shivakumar said the move comes in response to space constraints faced by the judiciary at the existing High Court premises. The Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court had reportedly raised concerns over the lack of adequate space for court operations, prompting the government to begin examining potential alternatives.

According to Shivakumar, representatives from the Advocates’ Association of Bengaluru (AAB) met him and proposed that the land currently occupied by the Bangalore Turf Club could be considered for the new High Court complex. The Chief Commissioner of the Greater Bangalore Authority has also identified an alternate parcel of land for consideration.

The Deputy Chief Minister, who also oversees Bengaluru Development, clarified that any future relocation of the High Court would be restricted to the CBD area to ensure accessibility for judges, lawyers, and litigants. Proximity to metro connectivity and other transport facilities will be key criteria in finalising the location.

While discussions are still at an early stage, officials are examining legal and logistical aspects before taking a final decision. The proposal marks one of the most significant administrative moves involving the High Court’s infrastructure in recent years, as the present building has reached its capacity limits amid rising case volumes and expanding judicial activity.

If approved, the new High Court complex could offer modern infrastructure, improved access, and space for future expansion while retaining its location advantage within central Bengaluru.
