A deep, unnoticed cavity beneath Richmond Road has raised serious safety concerns, with experts warning that the road could cave in at any moment due to heavy traffic pressure.
A highly dangerous and hidden road hazard has surfaced on Richmond Road, posing a serious threat to motorists and pedestrians. A deep cavity measuring nearly five to six feet has formed beneath the road surface, creating a situation where the stretch could collapse without warning.
The alarming condition was revealed during a NewsFirst Reality Check, which brought to light a deadly hole lying unnoticed beneath the asphalt layer.
From the outside, the road appears normal, but beneath it, the soil has completely collapsed, leaving only a thin asphalt (tar) layer acting as support.
This dangerous cavity is located on the stretch connecting HAL side towards Richmond Road, a route that witnesses continuous movement of heavy vehicles. Experts warn that due to this constant load, the road is at a high risk of sudden cave-in.

The structure of the cavity resembles a tunnel-like hollow, making the situation even more critical. Since the damage is hidden below the surface, road users have no visual warning, increasing the chances of accidents.
Officials and civic authorities are yet to barricade or permanently repair the stretch, even as the risk continues to grow. If immediate action is not taken, the road could give way at any time, leading to major accidents and loss of life.
The exposure of this deadly spot has once again raised questions about road maintenance and safety monitoring in the city, especially on busy arterial routes like Richmond Road.
