At the inauguration of NewsFirst’s mega EV Expo in Bengaluru, Kinetic Green Energy CEO Sulajja Firodia Motwani called for rapid EV adoption, praised central government support, and highlighted Karnataka’s key role in EV research.

Bengaluru: India has made a strong start in the electric vehicle (EV) sector and must now aim to become a global leader, said Kinetic Green Energy CEO Sulajja Firodia Motwani. She stated that within the next five years, at least 30 percent of vehicles on Indian roads should be electric.

Speaking at the inauguration of the mega EV Expo organised by NewsFirst at Tripura Vasini, Palace Grounds, Bengaluru, Motwani highlighted the growing momentum of the EV industry in the country. The expo was formally inaugurated by Union Minister for Heavy Industries H.D. Kumaraswamy, who launched the event by lighting the ceremonial lamp.

Expressing pride in representing India’s EV sector, Motwani appreciated the strong support extended by the Ministry of Heavy Industries through the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. She said the scheme has played a vital role in strengthening domestic manufacturing and improving product quality. Acknowledging the role of the ministry’s Additional Secretary, Dr. Hanif Qureshi, she noted that his cooperation has helped companies bring advanced and high-quality electric vehicles to the market. She added that the industry looks forward to continued government backing.

Motwani also praised Karnataka for emerging as a major hub for electric vehicle research and development. She said the state is witnessing significant innovation in EV technology, which is crucial for long-term growth. According to her, consumer preference is gradually shifting from conventional fuel-based vehicles to electric alternatives, reflecting rising environmental awareness and trust in EV performance.

Highlighting the need for a cleaner environment, she stressed that electric vehicles are essential for achieving pollution-free living. She further emphasised that not only vehicles but also the charging infrastructure must be completely green and sustainable to ensure true environmental benefits.

The inauguration event saw the presence of several prominent leaders from the automobile and EV industry, including Ministry of Heavy Industries Additional Secretary  Dr. Hanif Qureshi, Mahindra Last Mile Mobility CEO Suman Mishra, and TVS Motor Company CEO K.N. Radhakrishnan, among other dignitaries.

The NewsFirst EV Expo, being held at Palace Grounds, is positioned as a major platform to promote electric mobility, showcase innovation, and strengthen India’s journey towards sustainable transportation.
