New Director Dr. Dinesh B unveils ambitious plan to decentralize heart care, expand OPD hours till 8 pm, and set up emergency clinics at metro and bus stations.

Bengaluru’s leading cardiac care center, Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research (SJICSR), is all set for a massive expansion under its newly appointed Director, Dr. Dinesh B. In a press conference on Thursday, Dr. Dinesh announced plans to open satellite heart hospitals in all five municipal corporations under the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), making advanced cardiac care more accessible.

Currently, Jayadeva runs an 80-bed satellite hospital at KC General Hospital, Malleswaram, which shuts operations at 4 pm. Dr. Dinesh vowed to keep the satellite OPD open till 8 pm and ensure round-the-clock emergency services. “One hospital is not enough to treat all patients. We must reach where the people are,” he said.

The institute will also set up emergency cardiac clinics at metro and bus stations to tackle high-footfall emergencies. Principal Secretary of the Medical Education Department, Mohammad Mohsin, confirmed the government’s vision to gradually establish satellite cardiology hospitals across Karnataka.

Dr. Dinesh also revealed plans for a heart failure clinic, a valvular and TAVR (transaortic valve replacement) clinic, and affordable technology adoption in cardiology. He encouraged more global academic publications from the institute.

With 123 cardiologists, 48 surgeons, 32 anaesthetists, 17 cath labs, and 12 operation theaters, Jayadeva remains India’s busiest cardiac hospital but currently faces a 10-15% staff shortage including nursing and Group ‘D’ workers.

Dr. Dinesh, previously professor of cardiology at SJICSR Mysuru, takes over from Dr. KS Ravindranath, who was serving as in-charge director since February 2024.
