After the Jayadeva Flyover, another key Bengaluru flyover is set to be removed, as BMRCL plans demolition of the Dollars Colony Junction flyover in JP Nagar to make way for the Metro Orange Line project.

Bengaluru is preparing for yet another major flyover demolition, following the removal of the Jayadeva Flyover. This time, the Dollars Colony Junction flyover in JP Nagar is set to be demolished as part of the city’s expanding Metro network.

The demolition is linked to the construction of the Metro Orange Line, which will pass through the JP Nagar-Kempapura stretch. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has already floated tenders for civil works along this route, clearly mentioning the removal of the existing flyover.

The Dollars Colony flyover, located in JP Nagar, was opened to the public in 2018. Built at a cost of ₹25 crore, the structure was inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Stretching nearly one kilometre, the flyover played a crucial role in easing traffic for commuters travelling towards Bannerghatta Road, Mysuru Road and Jayanagar areas.

However, with plans to construct a double-decker flyover along with the Metro line on the Orange Line corridor, the existing structure will now be dismantled. The Orange Line will connect JP Nagar Fourth Phase to Kempapura, significantly improving public transport connectivity in south and west Bengaluru.

BMRCL has recently invited tenders for civil construction under three different packages for this corridor. The first package covers the stretch from JP Nagar Fourth Phase through JP Nagar Fifth Phase, Kadirenahalli and up to Kamakya Junction. This package also includes the demolition of the Dollar Colony flyover.

Officials indicate that the removal of the flyover is essential to accommodate the proposed Metro alignment and the planned double-decker infrastructure. While the flyover has been beneficial for road users, authorities believe the long-term benefits of the Metro project will outweigh the temporary inconvenience caused by demolition and construction work.

With tenders already floated and preparations underway, the demolition of the Dollar Colony Junction flyover is expected to begin once the civil works contracts are finalised.
