  • K-RIDE secures 90% of land for Corridor-2 after L&T withdrawal
  • Fresh tender to be floated post full acquisition to avoid delays
  • 30% construction complete, including 330 piers and 43 minor bridges

Nearly 90% of the required land for the Baiyappanahalli-Chikkabanavara Mallige Line has been acquired as K-RIDE fast-tracks formalities ahead of a fresh tender to avoid delays.

The Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project (BSRP) is regaining momentum as K-RIDE (Rail Infrastructure Development Company - Karnataka) fast-tracks land acquisition for Corridor-2, the Baiyappanahalli-Chikkabanavara Mallige Line, following the withdrawal of the previous contractor Larsen & Toubro (L&T).

Officials confirmed that nearly 90% of the 25-km stretch’s land requirement has already been acquired, ensuring readiness for the new civil works tender.
K-RIDE officials revealed that of the total 2,264 sq. mtrs needed, notices have been issued across Mahadevapura, Kasaba, and Yeshwanthpur hoblis in Bengaluru East and North. The progress includes 396.1 sq. mtrs in Mahadevapura, 1,027 sq. mtrs in Kasaba, and 840 sq. mtrs in Yeshwanthpur, covering over 90% of the total area. Additionally, South Western Railway has transferred 157 acres, while 5.45 acres of private land and 7.38 acres of defence land have been acquired.

Officials said the urgency stems from delays caused by L&T’s mid-project exit due to slow land handovers. To prevent a repeat, K-RIDE has initiated a fresh tender process and plans to complete all land acquisition formalities before awarding contracts, ensuring smooth and uninterrupted construction.

Water, sewage, and GAIL pipeline shifting are ongoing. The 43 minor bridges on the route are progressing fast, with 17 partially done and 3 under construction.
