The Karnataka Housing Board (KHB) has outlined a major housing initiative near the Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR) in Devanahalli, proposing to develop 772 acres into residential plots and affordable homes. The move comes amid growing demand for housing driven by industrial expansion and rapid urbanisation in the northern outskirts of Bengaluru.

The planned acquisition spans five villages in Kundana hobli of Devanahalli taluk — Vishwanathapura, Vajarahalli, Beerasandra, Shanappanahalli, and Managondanahalli. Records indicate that the largest portion, over 410 acres, is in Vishwanathapura, while Managondanahalli accounts for about 177 acres. Smaller tracts are spread across the other three villages. The board intends to provide supporting infrastructure such as internal roads, sanitation facilities, and assured water supply.
New project will move forward only with public approval
The announcement follows the state government’s recent decision to withdraw plans for acquiring 1,777 acres in the same region after strong resistance from farmers concerned about losing fertile land. KHB officials have stressed that the new project will move forward only with public approval, with plans to issue a notification for acquisition shortly.
The project area holds strategic significance as it lies along the Satellite Town Ring Road linking Devanahalli and Doddaballapur, adjacent to the ITIR zone where Foxconn is setting up a 300-acre iPhone manufacturing facility. Land values have surged in recent years with the arrival of industries and educational institutions. While the housing scheme is expected to benefit low-income families, concerns remain over the potential displacement of agricultural communities.
