Deputy CM DK Shivakumar has revealed that the government is preparing a DPR to extend Bengaluru’s Namma Metro Yellow Line to Attibele, boosting connectivity for the city’s southern outskirts.

Bengaluru’s ever-growing metro map may soon stretch deeper into the city’s southern belt, with the state government actively considering an extension of the Namma Metro Yellow Line to Attibele.

Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, responding during Question Hour in the Karnataka Assembly, revealed that a Detailed Project Report (DPR) has already been commissioned to study the feasibility of taking the line beyond its current Bommanahalli terminal. The DPR is being prepared by RV Associates of Hyderabad.

The move comes after Congress MLA B Shivanna pressed for the extension, highlighting the needs of thousands of commuters in Attibele, Jigani, and surrounding industrial clusters. With tech parks, industrial hubs, and residential zones mushrooming in the area, demand for a reliable mass transit option has surged.

Shivakumar also pointed to upcoming infrastructure projects that make this proposal more pressing. A 90,000-seat international stadium planned near Attibele by the Karnataka Housing Board (KHB) is expected to transform the locality into a regional landmark. “We need to add 11–12 km more to link Jigani. It’s a high-potential corridor, and we will take suitable measures,” he said.

The Yellow Line, connecting RV Road to Bommanahalli, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 10 and has already seen record ridership. An Attibele extension, observers say, could not only ease congestion on Hosur Road but also improve last-mile connectivity for thousands working in the southern industrial belt.

If cleared, this extension could mark one of the most significant expansions for Bengaluru’s metro network, bringing a fast-growing suburban pocket firmly within the city’s transit grid.
