Farmers’ body KPRS to march to Freedom Park on August 21, demanding cancellation of the controversial Bengaluru-Mysuru Infrastructure Corridor project.
Bengaluru:The Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha (KPRS) has announced a major protest at Freedom Park on August 21, intensifying pressure on the State government over the controversial Bengaluru-Mysuru Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC) project promoted by Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises (NICE).

The farmers’ union has called for a total ban on NICE from operating in Karnataka and urged the government to scrap the BMIC project once and for all. They argue that the long-disputed project has been plagued by opaque decision-making and allegations of acquiring far more land than required.
The latest trigger came after the State government’s move to constitute an advisory committee in partnership with NICE, a step farmer leaders fear could revive the shelved project. According to them, this decision undermines the interests of thousands of farmers who have been demanding accountability for decades.

The BMIC, once envisioned as a modern expressway between Bengaluru and Mysuru, has been entangled in controversy from its inception. Last year, Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister D K Shivakumar hinted at reviving the corridor through an alternative highway plan, reigniting concerns among farming communities who see it as a threat to their livelihoods.
With the August 21 protest, KPRS is seeking to spotlight what it calls a betrayal of farmers’ rights.
