Greater Bengaluru Authority chief inspects advanced parking project at K.R. Market, directs officials to fast-track completion and ensure cleanliness, safety, and smooth coordination.
The Bengaluru Central City Corporation is giving a major upgrade to the unused parking space at K.R. Market by developing it into a modern and technology-driven parking facility. The project aims to improve parking management, safety, and overall convenience for visitors to one of the city’s busiest markets.
During an inspection of the ongoing works on Tuesday, Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) Chief M. Maheshwar Rao stated that nearly 90% of the construction work has already been completed. He directed the concerned officials to finish the remaining work at the earliest so that the facility can be opened for public use without further delay.
As per project details, the new parking complex will be capable of accommodating 400 two-wheelers and 200 cars. To ensure efficient monitoring and security, 67 AI-based cameras are being installed. These cameras will record complete data related to the number of vehicles entering and exiting the parking premises. Additionally, 12 alarm systems are being put in place to enhance safety and emergency response.
Keeping Bengaluru’s monsoon conditions in mind, a proper drainage system has also been installed in the basement to prevent water accumulation and flooding during heavy rainfall.

During the inspection, Mr. Rao also stressed the importance of maintaining hygiene and sanitation within the market area. He instructed officials to ensure regular cleaning and strict monitoring of waste management practices.
Meanwhile, Rajendra Cholan, Commissioner of the Bengaluru Central City Corporation, directed officials from the engineering, police, and revenue departments to hold weekly coordination meetings. These meetings will focus on maintaining cleanliness, completing pending works, ensuring systematic revenue collection from shops, managing parking operations, and strengthening overall safety measures at K.R. Market.
Once completed, the upgraded parking facility is expected to significantly ease congestion, improve traffic flow, and provide a safer, cleaner experience for shoppers and traders at the iconic market.
