A Hyderabad-based woman’s New Year post criticising life in Bengaluru sparks outrage, with many locals calling out what they see as disrespect towards the city that hosts millions of migrants.
Bengaluru may have its share of challenges, but for many residents, it remains a city that has offered shelter, livelihood and dignity to people from across the country. This sentiment came to the fore after a social media post by a young woman from Hyderabad triggered strong reactions from Kannadigas during the New Year celebrations.
The controversy began when a woman named Shreya took to social media platform X, stating that one of her New Year resolutions was to leave Bengaluru. Calling it her “best decision of the year,” she compared the city unfavourably with Hyderabad and said life there felt more peaceful and comfortable.

In her post, Shreya listed several reasons for wanting to move out of Bengaluru. She cited poor road conditions with frequent potholes, long travel times even for short distances, delays in booking cabs, water scarcity, poor quality food and the high cost of living. She further claimed that her life in Hyderabad was far more relaxed.
Moving out of Bengaluru was the best decision I made in 2025.

No more
- potholes on road
- absurd travelling time for short distances
- waiting hours to get cab booked
- insane traffic
- hard water
- low quality food & healthcare
- expensive cost of living
Life has become so…
The post quickly went viral and drew sharp criticism from many Bengaluru residents. Several users expressed anger, saying that while the city does have problems, openly insulting it after benefiting from its opportunities was unfair. Some users told her it was better she moved out if she felt unhappy, but urged her not to demean Bengaluru while doing so.

Many responses also reflected a larger frustration among locals, who feel that despite providing jobs, food and shelter to people from other states, Bengaluru often faces repeated criticism from those who choose to live and work here. Users pointed out that the city has silently absorbed its problems while continuing to support migrants from across India.
