With three back-to-back holidays triggering heavy outbound travel, KSRTC and BMTC have arranged hundreds of additional buses from Bengaluru to districts across Karnataka.
People planning to travel home or go on short trips have good news this long weekend. Anticipating a sharp rise in passenger movement due to three consecutive holidays, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) and Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) have announced large-scale additional bus services from Bengaluru.
The travel rush began from Thursday evening itself, with many people leaving the city ahead of the weekend. The extended break includes Saturday, Sunday and Republic Day on January 26, leading to a surge in demand for transport services. Authorities expect heavy crowding at bus terminals and have stepped in to reduce pressure and prevent commuters from depending on high-priced private buses.
To manage the situation, BMTC and KSRTC are jointly operating extra services to various parts of the state. According to officials, 265 BMTC buses were operated from Bengaluru starting after 8 pm on January 23, mainly from Majestic Bus Station. These services covered key destinations including Hassan, Arakalgud, Chikkamagaluru, Shivamogga, Davanagere, Turuvekere, Tumakuru, Hosadurga, Pavagada, Chitradurga, Challakere, Hosapete, Ballari, Raichur, Dharmasthala, Gadag, Haveri and Hubballi.

In view of increasing demand, KSRTC has decided to operate over 500 additional buses from January 24 onwards, connecting Bengaluru to several districts across Karnataka. These services aim to ensure smoother travel during the peak holiday period and reduce overcrowding.
Additionally, from the Satellite Bus Station on Mysuru Road, 180 extra buses will be operated on January 23, 24 and 25, strengthening connectivity to different regions of the state. The transport corporations have advised passengers to plan their journeys early and make use of these additional services.
With weekend holidays combined with Republic Day celebrations, the transport arrangements are expected to provide major relief to thousands of travelers heading out of Bengaluru.
