Unscientific road repair and poor safety measures in Mahadevapura are blamed after a toddler dies in a tragic crash, triggering widespread anger and calls for accountability.

A heartbreaking road accident in Bengaluru’s Mahadevapura area has claimed the life of a two-year-old boy, sparking intense public anger over unsafe and unscientific road repair work. The tragic incident occurred on Haleyahalli Road, under the Mahadevapura Assembly constituency limits, where road repairs have been ongoing for the past six months.

The victim, identified as 22-month-old Trishool, was returning home on a two-wheeler with his cousins after visiting a temple. The accident took place around 5.30 pm on Sunday. According to local residents, the road was in a poor condition due to slow-moving and poorly managed repair work being carried out by the gram panchayat.

As the bike was moving ahead, an autorickshaw in front suddenly applied brakes, forcing the bike rider to slow down. At that moment, a car coming from behind rammed into the bike, causing Trishool to fall onto the road. Tragically, another car passing by ran over the toddler’s head, leading to his death on the spot.

Locals said the accident happened at a stretch where road construction was underway, making the surface uneven and unsafe. They alleged that repeated complaints about the dangerous condition of the road had been ignored for months. Residents blamed the unscientific execution of the project and lack of safety barricades for the fatal mishap.

Trishool’s parents were reportedly in Ujjaini at the time of the incident. The child’s grandfather, Raghavendra, said this was not the first fatality on the stretch and claimed that several lives had already been lost due to the hazardous road conditions. He alleged government negligence and demanded immediate action.

Holding Trishool’s photograph, residents staged a protest, demanding justice and accountability. They said the road has become nearly impossible for two-wheelers and pedestrians, and daily travel has turned risky.

The toddler’s last rites were performed at the family’s farmland in Chikkaballapur, as grief-stricken relatives bid a tearful farewell. Police have registered a case and further investigation is underway.
