Biocon chief Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, who recently criticised Bengaluru’s civic condition, has now acknowledged improved roads and cleaner streets, crediting Deputy CM DK Shivakumar’s leadership.
Biocon chairperson and leading industrialist Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw has publicly acknowledged the visible improvement in Bengaluru’s roads, footpaths and cleanliness, crediting Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar for driving the changes. Her latest remarks mark a significant shift from her earlier, strong criticism of the city’s civic condition.
Just a few weeks ago, Mazumdar-Shaw had taken to X to highlight the poor state of the city’s infrastructure. On October 13, she shared concerns raised by an overseas business visitor who questioned why Bengaluru’s roads were damaged and why garbage was piling up across localities. She tagged top state leaders, including the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister, urging strict accountability and better civic management.
We are finally seeing visible change in cleaner foot paths n asphalted roads across the city. @DKShivakumar your leadership has been key in rescuing our city from collapsing under the weight of garbage debris n pot holes. Please continue to drive this important development.…

Her post triggered an immediate political reaction. Ministers defended the ongoing development works and argued that massive funds had been allocated for repairing roads and filling potholes. DK Shivakumar responded firmly, saying that Bengaluru needed “collective effort, not constant criticism.” He added that progress would be visible soon as multiple repair and clean-up projects were already underway.
FIn her latest acknowledgement, she noted that footpaths have been cleared of debris, potholes are being fixed, and the overall cleanliness has improved. She specifically lauded DK Shivakumar for taking charge of urban development and ensuring faster progress.
