After Biocon chief Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw raised concerns over Bengaluru’s poor roads and garbage woes, Industries Minister MB Patil hit back, saying she should “take up work under CSR” instead of repeatedly criticising the government.
Bengaluru’s civic woes took a political turn after Karnataka Industries Minister MB Patil publicly rebuked Biocon chairperson Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw for calling out the city’s crumbling infrastructure. In response to her social media post about pothole-ridden roads and garbage piles, Patil asked her to “take up some work under CSR in her area,” arguing that the government was already spending Rs 1,000 crore on road repairs.

The minister defended the Congress government, claiming it had inherited the pothole mess from the previous BJP administration and needed time to fix it. He described Bengaluru as a fast-growing global city facing inevitable congestion, drawing comparisons with traffic in London and San Francisco. Patil also attributed the city’s mounting pressure to rapid migration from other Indian states, especially due to the booming IT sector.
Despite the criticism, the minister insisted that Bengaluru’s global appeal remains intact, saying no company has left the city over infrastructure issues. He emphasised that the ecosystem and talent pool continue to keep Bengaluru ahead in attracting investments, crediting the city’s global image to the Congress government’s earlier initiatives under SM Krishna’s leadership.
