A newly opened lane by NHAI between Hebbal and Kodigehalli has brought noticeable relief to commuters, but Bengaluru residents are divided over its long-term traffic impact.
A Bengaluru resident’s social media post about the newly extended lane between Hebbal and Kodigehalli has gone viral, triggering widespread discussion among daily commuters and traffic observers.
In his post on X (formerly Twitter), the user wrote, “Took a drive from Hebbal to Kodigehalli (towards Airport). The new extended lane by NHAI seems to be making traffic a bit easier, as vehicles from ORR towards the Airport are taking that route now. Need to see how this pans out in the coming days.”

Many users echoed this observation, saying the new lane opened by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has eased congestion on the usually jammed Hebbal junction, a crucial route leading to Kempegowda International Airport.
However, reactions were mixed. One commuter pointed out that “the bus stop and random parking of vehicles at the entrance of the loop from Esteem to Hebbal Flyover must be disallowed,” claiming that parked autos and cabs were again blocking smooth traffic.
Another commuter noted, “The traffic choke point will move further away, Mekhri Circle has become a heavy choke point. Vehicles turning right block all lanes before the underpass, and jams extend to Sanjaynagar.”
Some also expressed concern that the Hyatt Centric Junction could become a new bottleneck during peak hours, with vehicles frequently changing lanes to enter or exit the airport flyover.
Despite these worries, several users appreciated the initiative. “Yes, it’s reducing congestion at the merge point. Someone used some common sense. Kudos to that person,” one wrote.
Many urged the authorities to declare the new lane a no-parking zone, ensuring the benefit of the lane extension is not lost to unregulated parking and poor lane discipline.
