City Police to regulate access, deploy AI-based surveillance and holding areas to manage crowds during New Year celebrations

Unrestricted public access to Bengaluru’s key New Year celebration hubs, MG Road and Brigade Road, will not be permitted this year as part of enhanced security arrangements, City Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh has announced.

The decision follows a detailed field inspection conducted on Wednesday to assess crowd management and safety requirements for the New Year festivities. Entry into the core celebration zones will be strictly controlled and regulated to avoid overcrowding and to ensure the smooth movement of pedestrians, emergency services and police personnel.

To manage large crowds, designated holding areas have been identified where people can be temporarily halted and released in a phased manner. Citizens have been advised to plan their movements in advance and cooperate with police on duty, as the free access to Brigade Road that was allowed in previous years will not be extended this time.

Security arrangements around MG Road have been further strengthened with extensive CCTV coverage and live, AI-powered crowd movement and monitoring systems. These systems will allow authorities to track crowd density in real time, identify pressure points early and take immediate action when required.

In addition to physical and technological measures, the Bengaluru City Police have launched a social media awareness drive encouraging revellers to celebrate responsibly. Through the campaign tagged #CelebrateResponsibly, citizens are being urged to show restraint, maintain courtesy and cooperate with law enforcement personnel to ensure a safe and orderly New Year celebration across the city.
