Short circuit suspected as BMW and Toyota parked outside a house go up in flames at JP Nagar; losses pegged at ₹3 crore

Celebrations ahead of the New Year turned into shock and distress for a family in Bengaluru after a massive fire destroyed two parked cars and other valuables in the early hours of last Tuesday night.

The incident occurred in Vaddarapalya, JP Nagar 8th Phase, where cars parked in front of a house suddenly caught fire. The vehicles, identified as a BMW and a Toyota, were completely gutted in the blaze.

According to preliminary information, the fire is suspected to have been caused by a short circuit, though the exact reason is yet to be confirmed. Sources said the fire first broke out from one of the cars and quickly spread, intensifying within minutes.

Apart from the vehicles, wooden planks stored outside the house for construction purposes also caught fire and were reduced to ashes. The intensity of the flames led to extensive damage, with the total loss estimated at around ₹3 crore.

The incident took place late Tuesday night, just four to five days before the New Year, adding to the shock for the residents. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

A complaint has been registered at the Konanakunte Police Station. Car owner Manjunath, in his statement to the police, said the fire broke out unexpectedly while the vehicles were parked outside his residence.

Police officials have initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire and are examining whether any electrical fault or other factors triggered the incident.
