  • Satellite images show land was vacant in 2023
  • Houses built illegally within two years
  • No ownership or government documents issued

Exclusive satellite visuals accessed by NewsFirst reveal that houses at Kogilu Layout were built only in the last two years, strengthening the government’s claim of illegal construction on quarry land.

Fresh satellite images have brought out crucial evidence in the Kogilu Layout demolition controversy, clearly indicating that the houses cleared by authorities were of recent origin and constructed illegally. NewsFirst has accessed exclusive satellite photographs that show the area was completely vacant just two years ago.

According to the images, in 2023, the land, earlier used as a quarry, had no residential structures. However, by 2025, the same stretch shows a large number of houses, raising serious questions about how such rapid construction took place on government land.

Officials have confirmed that no ownership documents, land titles, or government approvals were issued for the houses built in the cleared area. Authorities stated that the constructions came up over the last two years without any legal sanction, making them unauthorised.

The Bangalore Urban District Additional Deputy Commissioner has clarified that the land does not carry any official residential approval and that no rights were granted to those who built houses there. Notices were also issued in connection with the illegal constructions, officials said.

The satellite imagery has now emerged as key proof backing the government’s position that the structures were unauthorised and built recently. Officials maintain that the demolition drive was carried out only after confirming the illegal nature of the constructions.

The visuals are expected to play a significant role in the ongoing political and administrative debate surrounding the Kogilu Layout evictions, as they clearly establish the timeline of construction and absence of legal backing.
