Vehicle owners without valid emission testing certificates face fines up to ₹3,000 as authorities crack down on smoke-emitting and old vehicles contributing to air pollution.
Vehicle owners in the state capital have been put on alert as the Transport Department intensifies action against vehicles operating without valid emission testing certificates. Officials have imposed heavy penalties on owners of smoke-emitting vehicles in a bid to control rising air pollution levels.
Authorities have made it clear that vehicles without a valid emission certificate will attract strict fines. Two-wheelers found exceeding pollution limits are being fined ₹1,500. For cars, lorries and buses, the penalty has been fixed at ₹3,000.

Over the past three years, enforcement drives have led to significant collections. A total of 1.85 lakh vehicle owners have been penalised during this period. From these violations alone, the department has collected ₹27.31 crore in fines. This highlights the scale of non-compliance among vehicle owners.
Officials point out that lakhs of old vehicles in the city are contributing heavily to air pollution. Many outdated vehicles continue to run on roads without proper emission checks. In addition, there are concerns that some vehicle owners are putting scrap or unfit vehicles back into operation, further worsening pollution levels.

The department has stepped up inspections to identify such vehicles and ensure compliance with emission norms. Authorities have warned that checks will continue and penalties will be imposed strictly on violators.
With air pollution becoming a growing concern, vehicle owners are advised to ensure that their emission testing certificates are valid and updated to avoid heavy fines and legal action.
