Greater Bengaluru Authority proposes an 800-metre parallel flyover between HSR Layout and Bellandur to finally ease chronic congestion at Iblur Junction.
Commuters using Bengaluru’s Outer Ring Road (ORR) may soon get long-awaited relief from traffic congestion at Iblur Junction, one of the city’s most notorious bottlenecks. The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has proposed an 800-metre-long flyover connecting HSR Layout and Bellandur, a move expected to save motorists 10 to 15 minutes of travel time.
Currently, vehicles travelling from Kadubeesanahalli towards Silk Board enjoy smooth, signal-free movement thanks to an existing flyover that allows traffic to completely bypass the Iblur signal. However, the parallel flyover for vehicles moving from Silk Board towards Marathahalli, which was originally planned along with the existing structure, was never constructed. This missing link has turned Iblur Junction into a daily nightmare for commuters.

Due to the lack of a grade separator from Agara towards Marathahalli, traffic from Sarjapur Road, Koramangala, Silk Board and ORR converges at the Iblur signal. During peak hours, congestion frequently spills backwards, choking the Agara flyover and stretching all the way to the HSR flyover, causing long delays.
The newly proposed flyover aims to plug this long-standing infrastructure gap and provide uninterrupted, signal-free movement along ORR, significantly easing pressure at Iblur Junction. Though the parallel structure should ideally have been built when the first flyover was constructed, authorities are now moving forward to finally address the issue.

During an inspection on Tuesday, GBA Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao reviewed the traffic situation at Iblur Junction and directed engineers to prepare a feasibility report. The project will move ahead after technical and logistical assessments are completed.
If approved and executed, the flyover is expected to bring substantial relief to thousands of daily commuters on one of Bengaluru’s busiest IT corridors.
