After repeated notices and attachment orders failed, the Greater Bengaluru Authority has decided to auction properties of nearly 7,000 defaulters across city zones for non-payment of property tax.
The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has initiated strict action against property owners who have failed to clear long-pending property tax dues. In a major enforcement drive, the authority has decided to auction nearly 7,000 properties belonging to tax defaulters within its jurisdiction.
According to official records, more than ₹437 crore in property tax arrears is pending from around 7,000 property owners across Bengaluru. Despite issuing demand notices and giving sufficient time for compliance, the concerned owners did not clear their dues.
Following non-compliance, the GBA issued property attachment (seizure) orders as the next step. However, even after attachment orders were served, tax payments were not made. As a result, the authority has now moved to the final stage of recovery, public auction.

The auction has been scheduled for February 17, 2026, and will be conducted at the offices of the respective Joint Commissioners in each city zone. Notices related to the auction, including property details, have been published online on the official GBA website for public access.
Zonal data shows the scale of default across Bengaluru:
• East Zone: 1,615 properties
• West Zone: 1,504 properties
• Central Zone: 1,398 properties
• South Zone: 1,347 properties
• North Zone: 1,156 properties
This brings the total number of properties to 7,020, closely aligning with the “around 7,000” defaulters identified by the authority.
GBA officials have clarified that property owners still have a final opportunity to avoid the auction. If the pending property tax is paid immediately through online payment, the auction process for that property will be withdrawn.

The authority has urged defaulters to act without delay, warning that once auction proceedings begin, there will be no further extensions.
