White-topping project on Panathur Main Road will block all vehicular movement for 21 days starting October 10. Bengaluru Police issues alternative routes to ease congestion.
Bengaluru commuters, brace for detours! The Bengaluru City Traffic Police has announced a 21-day complete traffic ban on Panathur Main Road starting October 10, 2025, owing to ongoing white-topping work. The restriction falls under the jurisdiction of the HAL Airport Traffic Police Station, and officials say it is necessary to ensure smoother traffic flow once the road upgrade is completed.
According to the traffic advisory issued by Sahil Bagla, IPS, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic East Division), all types of vehicular movement will be prohibited from Panathur Railway Bridge Junction to Boganahalli Junction during the construction period.
The DCP’s office has provided detailed alternate routes to help commuters plan ahead and avoid gridlocks:
• Vehicles from Whitefield and Varthur heading to Kadubeesanahalli and Devarabeesanahalli: can take a right turn near Balagere T Junction, continue via VIBGYOR Road towards Varthur Main Road, then take a left near Marathahalli Bridge to reach Outer Ring Road and proceed to their destination.
• Vehicles from Devarabeesanahalli and Bellandur heading to Varthur and Whitefield: should take the Outer Ring Road towards Marathahalli Bridge, then connect to Varthur Main Road to continue their journey.
The traffic police have requested residents and motorists to cooperate with the restrictions, noting that the white-topping project will greatly improve road quality and reduce future maintenance issues.
The Panathur Main Road stretch is one of the most congested corridors in East Bengaluru, connecting major IT and residential hubs like Kadubeesanahalli, Bellandur, and Whitefield. Daily commuters and tech park employees are advised to plan for longer travel times and use navigation apps for live updates on diversions.
