  • Panathur Main Road closure extended beyond November 1
  • Utility works by KPTCL, BWSSB, BESCOM delay white-topping
  • Traffic congestion worsens across HAL and Marathahalli routes

The ongoing white-topping work on East Bengaluru’s Panathur Main Road is facing delays due to pending utility works by KPTCL, BWSSB, and BESCOM, pushing back the reopening beyond the November 1 deadline.

The reopening of Panathur Main Road in East Bengaluru, which was scheduled for November 1 after white-topping work, is set to be delayed, with civic authorities confirming that pending utility works have disrupted the project timeline.

The crucial stretch, connecting Marathahalli to the city’s eastern outskirts, has remained closed since October 10 for road improvement under the white-topping project. However, works undertaken by multiple civic agencies, including the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL), Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB), and Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM), have caused delays in the final phase.

According to the latest traffic advisory issued on Thursday, “Due to ongoing works by KPTCL, BWSSB, and BESCOM, the Panathur Road project is facing delays. The reopening date will be announced shortly.” Officials confirmed that post-laying and curing work for the concrete surface has not yet begun, as the agencies are still completing their respective installations.

The extended closure has worsened congestion across major alternative routes. Vehicular traffic has been diverted through HAL Airport Road, with heavy build-up reported between ISRO Junction, Marathahalli, and Varthur. Traffic police have deployed additional personnel from HAL and nearby stations to manage the situation.

Authorities indicated that the delay could stretch by three to five more days, depending on the weather. Rain in recent days has further slowed progress, adding to commuter woes in one of Bengaluru’s most traffic-choked zones.

Panathur Main Road serves as a vital link between the city’s IT corridors and suburban residential zones. The completion of the white-topping project is expected to improve road quality and reduce maintenance costs in the long term, but for now, motorists continue to grapple with extended travel times and diversions.
