In a remarkable display of community support, over 70 Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) personnel have volunteered to register as potential blood stem cell donors. The initiative, aimed at raising awareness about blood cancer and blood disorders, was part of an educational session conducted by DKMS Foundation, a global non-profit dedicated to combating blood cancer.
Held at the Traffic Management Centre, the session saw participation from more than 100 traffic officers, who learned about the life-saving role of stem cell donation. DKMS representatives explained how a simple cheek swab could be the first step in matching patients with life-saving stem cells. The foundation also addressed common misconceptions about stem cell donation, reassuring participants of the process's safety and ease.
Over 70 officers registered as potential donors
The event concluded with an overwhelming response, as over 70 officers registered as potential donors. DKMS Foundation CEO, Patrick Paul, reportedly praised the selfless dedication of the BTP, acknowledging their commitment to extending their care to those battling severe blood disorders.
In recognition of their efforts, DKMS also donated 1,000 reflective jackets to the BTP, honoring their everyday contributions to the city while ensuring their safety during challenging weather conditions. The partnership underscores the importance of expanding the stem cell donor registry to offer a second chance at life to patients in need.
