NHAI adds QR codes on Bengaluru highways for road info, tolls, amenities & emergency contacts. Already on NH48, NH75; coming to NH44, NH648 soon

Commuters on highways around Bengaluru will soon find it easier to access essential travel information, thanks to a new initiative by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). The authority has begun installing QR code boards along major routes connecting the city, enabling road users to instantly retrieve details about the highway stretch, nearby facilities, and emergency contacts.

The system is already operational on two corridors — the Bengaluru–Nelamangala section of NH 48 and the Bengaluru–Kolar–Mulbagal stretch of NH 75. Within the next month, similar boards will be placed on the Bengaluru–Hyderabad route of NH 44 and the Dobbspet–Devanahalli–Hoskote section of the Bengaluru Satellite Town Ring Road (NH 648), according to NHAI officials.

By scanning the QR codes, travelers can view information such as the length of the road, construction and maintenance timelines, and toll plaza details. The codes also provide access to wayside amenities including restaurants, service stations, e‑charging points, rest areas, petrol pumps, toilets, puncture repair shops, and truck lay‑bys. Crucially, they list emergency contacts for highway patrols, resident engineers, police stations, project managers, and nearby hospitals.

Officials say the initiative aims to improve convenience and safety for motorists and pedestrians alike, while also promoting better use of highway infrastructure
