  • Short loop service only on Baiyapanahalli-Majestic line, passengers still face full trains
  • Calls growing for expansion to Majestic-Challaghatta, green line, and upcoming routes
  • BMRCL cites operational and financial limits, no current expansion plans

Passengers demand expansion of short loop trains across multiple lines as current services struggle to meet peak hour demand.

Bengaluru’s short loop metro service from Baiyapanahalli to Majestic, launched in February 2024, appears to have missed the mark during peak hours. Despite a review in June 2024, passengers report more frustration than relief.

While the service helps transport extra passengers from Baiyapanahalli, deboarding at Majestic only to board the same train again creates bottlenecks. Many commuters find subsequent trains full, making boarding impossible despite arriving at the station on time.

Corporate employees and software professionals point out that the peak hour rush is not confined to one stretch. Calls are growing for short loop services to run on routes such as Majestic to Challaghatta and on the green line, as well as upcoming metro lines.

The BMRCL communications team confirms that short loop services are currently limited to the purple line route. Expansion depends on operational and financial considerations, with no current plans to add trains due to stable passenger volume.

Commuters insist that a detailed study across all lines is essential. Passenger comfort, not just revenue generation, must guide service decisions to truly address Bengaluru’s peak hour metro woes.
