BMRCL gears up to finish the last pending ramp on the city’s first double-decker flyover at Silk Board Junction, promising smoother traffic flow between HSR Layout and BTM Layout.
Bengaluru’s first double-decker flyover at Silk Board Junction is on track to become fully operational by the end of December or early next year. BMRCL has begun launching steel girders over the existing flyover to link the HSR Layout side of the Outer Ring Road with BTM Layout. This elevated stretch will let motorists travel seamlessly from HSR Layout to BTM Layout via a down ramp and further toward Ragigudda.

The 5.5 km stretch is expected to provide major relief for commuters, helping them bypass one of the city’s most chaotic traffic junctions. While the Ragigudda–Silk Board section was opened in November 2024, the opposite side remained incomplete due to construction delays. Restricted night-time construction hours, plan revisions, and heavy congestion in the area slowed progress.
The current work includes installing a 42-metre steel girder to fix issues with the ramp’s turning radius toward Electronics City. Once complete, traffic is expected to flow more smoothly between BTM Layout, HSR Layout, and Electronics City.

However, traffic signals at the junction will continue to remain functional. Motorists travelling between Bommanahalli, HSR Layout, and Madiwala will still need regulated movement at the junction. Despite this, a significant drop in congestion is anticipated once the final ramp opens.
Commuters are also urging civic agencies to focus on pedestrian infrastructure near the newly opened Silk Board Metro station. Footpaths remain in poor condition, drainage is clogged, and crossing the junction remains unsafe. Regular users say better walkways are urgently needed to connect the BMTC bus stop on the ORR side, ensuring safe and convenient last-mile connectivity.
