A centralised command centre set up in Bengaluru will monitor CCTV footage and inmate movement across 8 central prisons and 4 district jails to tighten prison security and prevent illegal activities.
In a major step to strengthen prison security and prevent illegal activities, the Department of Prisons and Correctional Services has established a Central Command Centre at its headquarters in Bengaluru. The facility enables real-time monitoring of prison activities across the state.
The newly set up command centre allows authorities to view CCTV footage from 8 central prisons and 4 district prisons from a single location. All CCTV control systems of these jails are now integrated and monitored centrally from Bengaluru, making surveillance more effective and coordinated.
The primary objective of the command centre is to keep a close watch on activities inside prisons. Officials can monitor whether people entering and exiting prisons are being checked properly, whether security procedures are followed by staff, and whether any irregular or illegal activities are taking place inside the premises. Alerts and warnings can be issued immediately if lapses are noticed.

The Central Command Centre was inaugurated by Home Minister G Parameshwar. During the inauguration, Alok Kumar, Director General of the Department of Prisons and Correctional Services, explained the functioning and capabilities of the system to the minister.
With this system in place, authorities in Bengaluru can now monitor the movement of inmates and prison operations across all district and central prisons in the state. Along with live CCTV visuals, prisoner-related data and records are also being digitally stored at the command centre for reference and monitoring.
Officials said the initiative will help improve transparency, accountability, and discipline within prisons. By bringing all surveillance under one roof, the department aims to effectively curb illegal activities and ensure strict adherence to prison rules across Karnataka.
